  Author Bio

Jack Bowen grew up in San Diego, and now teaches philosophy. He has a variety of interests. He first studied human biology at Stanford University, but a serendipitous discovery at the library led him to earn a Master's degree in Philosophy. He has spoken at conferences and published numerous journal articles, mostly about sports ethics. As a world class athlete, two-time All-American water polo player, alternate goalie for the '96 Olympic Team and member of the 2000 Olympic Training Team, he has coached high school and served as assistant coach of the Men's National Water Polo Team. As an avid musician, he has been the recording drummer on over 10 albums, most recently with Amboy Kelso, a Bay Area favorite.

  Summary

Join 14-year-old Ian Pinkle in a series of strange experiences that introduce the ideas of over 150 philosophers-from Socrates and Confucius to Noam Chomsky and the Dalai Lama. In each chapter. Ian encounters another thought-provoking adventure-and along with him, his readers develop answers to the timeless questions of philosophy: How do we determine ethics and morality? Do humans have free will? Does God exist? What are the mind and soul like, if anything? Book jacket.
