Summary

  Summary

Exile and the Kingdom is a collection of stories written by Albert Camus published in 1957. This is the last literary work of Camus published during the lifetime of the author.

The collection includes six pieces:

- The Adulterous Woman

- The renegade (or muddle)

- The dumb

- The host

- Jonas (or the artist at work)

- The stone grows.

Each of these texts shows the dissatisfaction and failure of the central character and his difficulty in finding "The Kingdom", that is to say, a meaning to life and happiness than the apparent opposition of opposites as "solitaire / solidarity."

The characters have own course in different settings located mainly in Algeria (the nomad camp in the desert, southern towns, school isolated in the mountains, working class neighborhoods of Algiers), but also in a bourgeois neighborhood in Paris or village in Brazil.
