DeCapite, Frances :

Frances DeCapite's abiding interest in American Sign Language and in the interpreting profession began in a serendipitous fashion. A magna cum laude graduate of Bowling Green State University in 1974, she earned a B.S. degree in biology and began a career as a medical technologist. Fran's initial experience with deafness occurred when she was interdicted to the deaf daughter of a co-worker. In time, she successful completed several sign language and interpreter training courses at Cleveland State University and embarked upon a second career as an educational interpreter on the secondary and collegiate levels. Fran she also undertaken interpreting assignment o n behalf of the deaf community in Cleveland. She has taught American Sign Language in the Continuing Education Department of Cuyahoga Community College. With the support of CCC and Bureau of Vocational rehabilitation in Ohio, Fran co-established with Penny Oldstine a notetaking program modeled after a similar subject at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf in Rochester, New York. Her ultimate goals are to earn a master's degree in deaf education and expand her of service to the hearing impaired.
